Twitter

Amazing… everybody and their mother has joined twitter in the last few weeks. I have to admit, i’ve been having a lot of fun with the service. It’s so awesome to have my Oak Park Village homies blasting me with their random thoughts and ravings. Cuz you know how much i like random. =)

I find it interesting how status updates and text messaging has become a form of short-blogging… I read an article about when people limit their options, they get exponentially more creative… finding new ways to achieve their results within a strict set of rules… and this is no different. Limiting your blog entries to 140-160 characters yields interesting results… new slang… culture… Like haikus… It’d be cool if someone started a blog website where you sign up to write your blog and have to choose between several categories where you’re limited to different lengths of messages… like a 140 character category, a  280 character category… one that limits you to 17 syllables… I think people would get really creative with these restrictions.

Also, it has exposed me to the musings of friends and acquaintences who i don’t usually get much exposure to, online or otherwise. So there’s a hidden value i didn’t expect. I have been getting to know these friends a whole lot better, specifically because of twitter.

Ok i sound like fanboy now…

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

bear with me here…. this site is looooong overdue and for some reason i feel the need to migrate all my old blog entries from my Myspace blog and from my Tribe blog… that’s 4 years of almost-daily blogging…. PLUS all the comments… “Why?” you ask? Because it’s my life story and dammit i want to keep a record of it…. if tribe or myspace was stable, i might not feel this old-fashioned sense of ownership in regards to my data… but i do. so fuggit.

Either way this is gonna take a little while. Patience, Grasshopper. =)~S

Things that are important to me and things that are not

I used to be a real stickler about using title case text in my blog title line.

Now it doesn’t keep me up at night.

I used to try to promote green awareness.

Now i tire of promoting the “green bubble”

I used to really want my opinion heard too.

Now i gauge whether or not it’s worth the effort it takes to actually open my mouth and use my lungs.

I used to care to archive every single last thing that i thought i might want to see/use later.

Now the internet (and the forthcoming “grid”) are changing the way i think about “ownership” and challenging some of my most fundamental instincts.

Information overload. My ways of thinking are going to have to change if i am to survive this transition without running myself completely insane.

Time for a vin diesel break…

Things I Have Learned About My Friends by Posting to Tribe…

1) Never post on a friday afternoon.
Everyone in this scene has mentally checked out already… either getting their shit together for a party starting that night ,or they are already there setting up…

2) Never post on a monday or tuesday after a REALLY good party.
Everyone is still recovering and can barely read. They get back on tribe on wednesday to catch up… by this time your post has scrolled off the screen.

3) Someone has an educated answer to every question…
It doesn’t matter what I post about, someone in my diverse group of friends is guaranteed to have a background on the subject and i end up learning something every time…

4) My friends are not afraid to be vulnerable here.
It always amazes and touches me, the level of personal anguish that people wish to share here on this site. My friends are deeply honest with each other, even if their blog entries are private to the public.

5) People type like they talk.
When I read my friend’s writings I can almost hear their voices… It’s cool how much personality can be contained in just a few choice keystrokes.

6) My friends are gross.
Wow I thought I had a morbid streak… but you guys are simply inspirational! =P

7) My friends are really funny.
i have, on more than one occasion this week, LOLed over some photo or some blog entry that my friends have posted. It makes me sad that I cannot be everywhere at once so that I could avoid missing out on a single second of you weirdos.

My friends are really talented and smart as fuck
I keep seeing these unique, amazing and creative pieces of artwork… aural, visual, wearable… you name it… you guys are so talented you make me jealous… constantly.

9) My friends are hot
i wish I had a dime for every time a friend of mine considered joining tribe just because of some of the photos in my friends list. Gimme a dollar and I’ll hook you up Hoto. =)

10) I think my friends are the Indigo.

Goodbye Myspace

I am migrating my blog to tribe immediately… this profile will remain and i will still check email with relative frequency. but blogging from tribe is simply something I CAN do whenever I feel like… whereas myspace bugs and nazis at my job won’t let me log in half the time.

Open Invitation

so my friend clued me in to this site called zaadz.com…. looks to be a myspace/tribe-style community but for the evolutionary mind.

Since I know several of you are evolutionaries I’m inviting you to jump on board too. I know i might sound like an ad right now but here’s my logic: my blog has always been primarily about consciousness and the conscious evolution of our species… even my randomest shit that I post here is all part of the greater plan… and zaadz appears to WANT this kind of talk.

plus my job doesn’t block zaadz so I can regain the joy of blogging my random thoughts again.

what i thought was the most interesting is that you have to actually fill out an “about me” just to apply… they review your reasons for wanting to join and they even sent me real mail… yeah a real person read my app and spoke to me… that’s very cool to me.
