I Think I Was Being Followed Last Night

ok so the freakiest fucking thing happened to me last night. I swear to god someone was following me. I got on 99 from elk grove around 7:45 or so… maybe 8:00… i had just left my friend’s place. I have a habit of registering headlight and turn-signal patterns in my rear view mirror so I noticed that this black (maybe dark blue) chevy truck had been behind me since elk grove… i can’t be sure when he actually started following me. I hit my turn signal and went around somebody. He did the same. I merged back into the right lane. He did the same. I got off on the very next exit (Laguna Blvd) and got in the left turn lane. He did the same. I turned left and hit my right turn signal so i could go to home depot. He did the same. I drove down to the last home depot entrance and turned in. He did the same.

So now i’m really focused on this guy. So i’m kinda driving on auto-pilot.. so i hit my turn signal in the parking lot. HE DOES THE SAME. who fucking does that??? So i take the long way around the parking lot and he’s right behind me the whole time. I pull into a parking slot close to the front entrance, making sure there’s no tree in front of me so i can drive off if necessary, without having to back up. He pulls into the parking slot right next to me… to slot to my left.

So I just sit there and stare at him now. And he looks over at me and looks away, kind of chuckling and shaking his head… Heavy-set mexican or black guy… it’s too dark to see very well. I decide to wait him out. I’m not getting out of this truck until i see him leave. But he doesn’t leave. He just sits there. I wait about a minute and then I shut off the engine and start pretending to look through some papers and receipts. I keep looking over at him and he picks up his cell phone and makes a call. I wait 2 more minutes and he’s not budging. So i pop my door open and the interior light comes on. Immeditately he opens his door too. So i just sit there with my hand on the key and my feet on the gas and clutch with my door cracked… and i’m looking back over my shoulder to watch him. He doesn’t come up to me. He slooowly moseys his way up to the home depot, on the phone the whole time. He doesn’t look at me again. I keep a visual on him until i see him actually enter the building and then i started the truck and got the fuck outta there.

I may have been paranoid… maybe it was just a coincidence… but when you are accidentally following someone, you don’t park right next to them and look at them do you? You want to avoid freaking someone out. Who signals in a parking lot? Maybe he thought i was someone else… But why did he sit there until i opened my door? It’s just fucking weird. So i took all kinds of back-streets home and watched my ass the whole way. freaked me the fuck out.

Eek! That would scare me too… although it was probably a coincidence. At least I hope so.

Once when I was in high school a friend thought it would be funny to follow me and scare me. I lived in a really rural area… and I took really back roads, driving fast trying to lose him. Finally I ended up going to a gas station and when I found out it was him I wanted to kill him. What a dumbass.

same thing happen to me a few months back… someone was following me and my friends for about 20 minutes…
these things happen all the time… stupid people with a bunch of free time on their hands with nothing to do… some people even make a sport out of it…

that’s freaky and very unsettling. yeah, it could’ve been someone bored who thought he’d mess with you. he could’ve thought you were someone else. he might have been playing some kind of game with someone else, a who can freak someone out more game. ew.

if it happens again try to get the person’s license plate number and a description.

You should have parked and gotten out with your hands over your head, pointed towards each other, and stormed towards his truck going “WHAT? WHAT?” That’s how you deal with that shit. Or, if you were one of those dooshbags, you would – I know that’s not what people like us do.

One time in high school, these asshole jock dudes were following me around, harassing me. I got really freaked out and pissed off, and picked up a real-looking BB pistol I had under my seat and held it up so they could see it. It was fun as hell watching them screech to a halt, and those guys never fucked with me again. In fact, they looked kinda scared when I’d pass them in the halls in school. Not that I’d do that now or ever recommend it to anyone.

OMG so reading this totally brought up a memory that I haven’t thought of in years…

My WAY BACK ex and I were at a gas station… I had left my car there to get smogged and he drove me there to pick it up. As he got out of his car, he hocked a loogie on the pavement – and the vato guys in the fancy convertible that were parked right next to us thought he spit on their car. He tried to explain (and even show them the loogie on the asphalt) but they were having none of it. I was in the store paying for my smog check, so I had the shop guy keep an eye out for us. After I came out, the Ex and I went to our respective cars and took off.

The followed us.

Ex (in his Honda Civic) took off to the left – I (in my Toyota Tercel) kept going straight – they followed me. I went through the Med Center parking lot (which is heavily policed), hoping to find a cop. Instead, they started putting on speed and swerving like they were going to t-bone me.

So I hopped up over the lawn and took off onto Broadway.

I mean, I eventually lost them, but I was effing SCARED!

Ugh.

dood… that shit happened to me at least a half dozen times when I lived in phoenix. I don’t typically shy away from conflict (who knew right? … and the two or so that I actually confronted just turned out to be people with too much time on their hands with pent up aggression that imagined that you cut them off or something equally petty. I also had desert heat addled douchebags try to run me off the road more times than is acceptable in a “civil” society. I eventually started to keep a can of pepper spay in my car to head off potential road rage douchbaggery.

that does not sounds like a coincident. there are freaks in this world, and it sounds like you had one following you. the thing to do when you notice someone following you is to look them straight in the face. BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY THEM IN A LINE UP! write down their plates, let them know you can properly report them in case something weird happens. predators like easy targets, let them know you are not an easy mark. i think you got your point across though by waiting him out.

Man that does sound pretty creepy…

Here’s a possibility- maybe he was really just headed to the home depot all along, saw you had taken notice of his position behind you, and decided to toy with you a bit, etc.

Were you driving “fast?” He could have been “using” you for traffic clearing purposes, I do that all the time when I see someone clearing cars, lest the holes close up and I get stuck behind grampa moses.

When he got to the Home Depot maybe he noticed your panicked state, and chuckled to himself in amusement. So maybe he was messing with you, or wasn’t sure what to do with the awkward situation, but to me it sounds like a coincidence.

Anyway that sounds freaky, but there are 1,000,001 factors that can make for surreal experiences like that- hopefully that’s all it is!!!!
