Subtle Pleasures…
Why is Coca Cola in a styrofoam cup with crushed ice so GODDAMN GOOD????
I swear the cup makes a huge difference. i just haven’t been able to figure out WHY.
This morning i realized that crisp new dollar bills make my fingers smile. Why does new money feel good?
Letting your head slide down between two cold pillows so they cover your ears… mmmm… that’s the stuff.
The first sip of carbonated soda in the morning… and that delectable burn that you can feel going all the way down your throat…. ahhhhhhh!
There are probably a milion other simple subtle pleasures that I enjoy… but i can’t think of any… what are some of yours?

I’m feeling the first paint on a fresh canvas…
and the hot laundry…
but also there’s purring cat with whiskers in my face…
licking honey flavored yogurt off the back of a spoon…
BIG neck cracks (not those stupid teaser quiet ones, but the ones that give you the lil’ head rush)…
and clearing the chamber in the bong.

i think the soda in a styro cup has to do with the way the carbonation reacts against the foam…or something….but i know that feeling…that taste.
hummmm….one of my simple pleasures? that first sip of coffee in the morning…ahhh…..
sundays and being able to read the paper with nothing else to do.

Maybe the appeal of styrofoam…
…cups stems from nostalgia. They automatically remind me of boricha and Sunday mornings at church.
…cracking eggs on the side of a frying pan…
…sticking tired feet into freshly-laundered socks….
…snapping the spine (gently) of a brand-new book…
…bubble wrap (although, I guess this is not too subtle, eh?)
…turning the light out on a finished (good) book and drifting off to sleep…

Maybe its the lack of skunky can taste?
I’m a big simple pleasure guy too. Last night mine was coconut sorbet and an old b&w sci-fi movie (the brain from planet arous).
Both come in at under 3 bucks, but together they are perfect
…also, hells yes to the pillow thing!

Dude, after BM this year, I COULDN’T STOP DRINKING COKE. Out of a can. Cold as fuck out of a can: no other form of coke… or soda… or beverage… or liquid… or ANYthing… could match it. And I don’t drink soda very often.. And I wasn’t just dehydrated. Like a week later, I was still hooked on chugging as much cold Coke out of a can as I could possibly find. It was incredible.

i’m with shelley on a lot of these…
the first touch of wet paint on canvas..
cuddling and snoozing on a rainy day..
hot cocoa
fresh clean sheets
the feeling of really soft fuzzy sweaters like cashmere.
sitting out looking over the water and hearing gentle waves lap at the shore
the soft smoothness of rose petals..
stepping out onto a busy sf street every morning and watching everyone on their way to work
there are so many :c)

i’ve noticed…
…that when i take the lid off of my coffee or tea, that it tastes better because the aroma goes into your nose as the beverage floods your mouth. i think this synergy in sensing the drink is what helps when you put a cola into an open, styro cup.

I like drinking stuff out of the carton, right from the fridge, with the fridge door still open in the middle of the night.
Watching peoples hands when then are doing small intricate work. It totally entrances me and gives me goose bumps.
Soft hair.
