Teeth Falling Out

Here is something i thought was absolutely weird.

At Burning Man ’05, on my third night of sleep, I had a dream that my teeth were coming loose… at the end of the dream I watched my father die right in front of me in a rite-aid.

In “The Techno Pagan Octopus Messiah” ( www.amazon.com/Techno-Pag…/0953327515 ) author ian Winn wrote that he stayed with a shaman and had a dream that his teeth were falling out… when he asked the shaman what it meant, he was told “it means that your father has died”

A few chapters later, he went to Burning Man for the first time… He was also there in 05 giving lectures. I tried (and failed) to attend one of them.

This year, on my 2nd night of sleep at Burning Man, i dreamed again that my teeth were falling out… On burn night I ran into Nice Jason and he told me that he had the same dream the night before.

What is the connection between Burning Man and this teeth dream? How is it that I watched my father die in my dream, just as the shaman interpreted for Ian Winn? Why did the dream return 2 years later on the playa again? And why did Jason have this dream too?

The teeth-falling-out dream (nightmare?) has haunted me for years. Koreans interpret as a harbinger of death or something equally ominous.

I have also read that it could symbolize new beginnings (being at the cusp)…. which I think is quite appropriate for this time of year.

Teeth falling out in dreams is a classic symbol of stress. Pysiological stress is a funny thing because it doesn’t just come about in the usual negative ways…work, money etc…stress happens when people are going through wonderful amazing things also…such as transformations. Burning man has a big impact on many people…financially, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, so regardless of whether the things one is going through are “good” or “bad”, they can still have a profound effect thus causing physiological stress, so it doesn’t suprise me to hear of multiple people having the dream on the playa…as for the dad thing…I don’t know…

Having a dream about your teeth falling out can also be interpreted as self-consciousness, not necessarily about appearance, or a feeling of extreme instability. I used to have those dreams FREQUENTLY, but for me, they really were about my teeth falling out. I have had so much dental work and I have so many fake teeth, it’s a big fear of mine that they’ll need more work.

I have read things very similar to what Stacy posted above. The teeth-falling-out dream is also a sign that you have less control than you would like over some area of your life. who doesn’t, right?

All i know is that i didnt have any of these dreams until i read Stephen King’s “The Tommyknockers” at age 12 or something. That book describes the falling out of teeth in the most graphic and appalling way. :P ick.

    I asked my dentist
He said that those dreams occur when your are stressed, and you grind your teeth or clench your jaw tight. This restricts bloodflow, which in turn affects the nerves in the teeth. The oxygen-deprived teeth (low bloodflow) sends a signal to your brain that they aren’t there any more – hence the teeth falling out feeling in your dream.

I have friends that have this dream after ingesting psychedelics, which cause the lower jaw to tense.
