Bad Apples

Ok seriously… this has gone far enough. I tried getting off my soapbox a while back but what I saw tuesday night is worthy of a little discussion…

If I ever needed proof of the cult-nature of apple enthusiasts i got it on tuesday night at my friend’s bbq… I somehow found myself in the middle of full-blown dork-war; 4 apple employees in a HEATED argument with a group of PC users. I listened on the sidelines but I tried to stay out of it… and somehow I got sucked in.

“Hey SWAMI has an opinion! Tell em! Tell em how it was you on pc and 2 other people on iMacs at that one party and how yours was the only computer that was working”

I stayed silent

“No but those two guys on the macs were running WINDOWS on it! Weren’t they Swami?”

I stayed silent

I also stayed silent as a few people approached SHOUTING when discussing the fucking iPhone. The iPhone is like the holy grail of the iZombie… and for gods sake they can never shut up about it. They went back and forth in this argument and it seemed like nothing pissed off the iPeeps more than trying to tell them “Dude it’s just a phone.”

“Is is NOT just a phone!!!! It’s a VIDEO PHONE!! WIDE FUCKING SCREEN MAN!!!!”

The argument reached it’s climax for sure when one of them said (and I will never forget this one)

“The iPhone is a necessary part of human evolution.”

@#?@?$^#?$^?%?^&@#$??#$????

This is about when I finally spoke up… “Man… i really miss the days when my CAR was an extension of my penis.”

woops… now they’ve spotted me and they are closing in… i happened to be texting my girl about the whole scene and they started pointing at my razor phone… “Dude who uses THOSE??? Who the fuck would use THAT????”

about 20 mintues later the battle royale drew to a close and after a while one of the iFriends came over to smoke a cigarette with me… Finally… time to get personal.

“So what’s been up man? You got any plans for the 4th?”

“Naw… not much… just get a few drinks going…. watch some fireworks by the river…”

“Cool … Cool … ”

“Dude… Swami…. you NEED an iPhone… oh my god… YOU? YOU absolutely NEED an iPhone.”

This feels like Primerica all over again. =\

Ha haoooooh my god. A necessary part of human evolution. I can think of some choice things that are a very necessary part of human evolution, but most of them involve swear words or sharp objects, not techno-fads.

Aaanyway. I use a Mac at work and a PC at home. I’m sure if I were trying to run all my uber graphic shiznit at home, I’d notice that the Mac is better at it. But really, the only thing I notice on a daily basis is the different placement and usage of the Alt key. And that it’s harder to kick the Mac’s ass when it does happen to freeze. You have to nearly take out the shotgun and do it like Old Yeller to get that thing to do an unwanted shutdown…

I like the part where they wanted you to be on their side and then insulted you. That was my favorite part of this story. Hey Swami! Come here and agree with me and OH MY GOD, only brain damaged lepers use that phone!

Yeah, talking platforms and technology with some people is like talking religion or politics… While I am a Mac user, the things are just tools. And just like with a wrench or a screwdriver, as long as it gets the job done it doesn’t matter what brand you’re using.

I have a friend that grew up in rural Michigan where it snows a lot. He was driving his truck down the road when he saw that someone had spun-out on a patch of ice and was stuck in a ditch. He offered to pull the guy out but he refused.

Why you might ask? Because he wasn’t gunna let that Ford pull his Dodge out! —I see the same level of retardedness these days regarding Apple and PC users. Lame.

no…. it’s like Trilo said above… it’s just a tool to get the job done… if someone offered me a cheap iPhone I’d probably take it… but god forbid i would turn it into a personal lifestyle and never shut up about it.

it’s not the company or their products that disturb me… it’s the people.

I’m more anti technology these days.
I mean why do I need a video phone? Why do I need to have my MP3s my movies my tv my telephone and any other technophile addiction hardwired in my pocket. Whatever happened to knowing where you were going before you left the house to real ‘alone time’ with your date. Blah. I guess I’m just one of those weirdo’s waiting for the oil to run out just so I can be entertained by the millions who are helpless without electricity.

…but only because I find it to be most cost-effective for me to source and build my own personal computer. Otherwise, I’m not particularly attached to either. Having working in the Residential Computing department at a college, both tended to piss me off in equal amounts.
